The green retaining bag is excellent for permanent non degradable shoreline/riverbank restoration, vegetated slope stabilisation, or ornamental green/living retaining walls. Green retaining bags are easy to use and transport making them ideal for not only large commercial projects but DYI home and community projects as well.
The fine needle-punched texture of the green retaining bag allows for plants and trees to establish their fine roots in the soil contained in the bag. This not only provides a nourishing environment for growing plants, but as the root system grows, it locks the bags together reinforcing the wall's strength. This texture also makes the bags permeable, allowing water to flow through the wall without washing away the soil contained in or behind the bags.
The green retaining bag is cost effective as the additional materials required to install an effective structure are minimised. The green retaining bags have a long life expectancy as they are highly resistant to UV, rooting and biological degradation, natural acids and alkalis found in soil.
The green retaining bag is ideal for use along riverbanks and shorelines as the fabric is strong and sturdy while still remaining malleable allowing for natural curves to be followed or created. Its ability to sustain plant growth allows for the green retaining bag to go unnoticed once the plants are established.
While the green retaining bag is non degradable, it remains environmentally friendly as it is made using recycled materials.
For stable structure it is recommended that a layer of spikes, such as barbwire, be laid between each row of bags, spiking and securing the bags together. Once the wall has been constructed to your desired height, plants can be inserted either between the rows of bags or directly into the bag through an incision. For best results it is recommended that a mixture of gravel, sand, and compost be used to provide a nourishing environment which will remain stable.
